Mazomanie’s Quintin Zander doubled home Middleton’s Scott Brabender with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the North-West squad edged the East-Southeast 5-4 in the Home Talent League All-Star baseball game Friday night at Warner Park.
The game — an annual celebration of what is currently a 44-team amateur league in existence since 1929 — featured one-inning outings by nine pitchers on each team.
Zander’s hit made a winner of Plain’s Joe Gorman.
Cazenovia’s Nick Ihde hit a two-run home run in the fifth to cut the North-West’s deficit to 4-3. Brabender’s RBI single in the seventh tied the score at 4-4.
East-Southeast took a 4-1 lead with three runs in the fifth on a wild pitch, passed ball and sacrifice fly by Evansville’s John Duerst.
