Mezzetta, a California-based company that coined the slogan "Don't Forgetta Mezzetta," makes an excellent sauce, in addition to jarred olives and preserved veggies. This one has a bright, strong tomato flavor and is quite onion-forward (I like that but not everyone will). It has a smooth texture and slightly smoky flavor, and it avoids one of the most common pitfalls that afflict jarred marinaras — not being oily enough. This has plenty of that good olive oil flavor.

These crispy lemon-flavored cookies are imprinted with "inspiring messages," according to the packaging; in honor of my new quarantine gut, I ate the one that said "I AM GUTSY." The cookie is light and vaguely citrusy, avoiding falling into Lysol territory, a pitfall that sometimes befalls lemon-flavored things.

NBC absorbed years of criticism for prime-time shows filled with tape-delayed competition, but it learned in Thursday's telecast that live has its pitfalls, too. The network skipped Israeli skater Aleksei Bychenko's performance to show a sappy feature on a visit to Chen's elementary school. It was a risk, and producers were burned when they missed the best skate of the first hour of competition. Chen's lackluster performance only made it worse. The roasting NBC received online even included suggestions that the decision was anti-Semitic.
