Since the youth apprenticeship program began in the Fleet Services division, student interns have worked for the Madison Water Utility and Engineering Division.
“This is an opportunity here today to witness the transformation of our fleet,” Mayor Paul Soglin said.
“I think we’re in a full on crisis mode," City of Madison Fleet Services Superintendent Mahanth Joishy said.
The fleet service high school apprenticeship program was launched this semester at the division’s central repair shop.
Mahanth Joishy is set to take over the role of overseeing the city's Fleet Service Division on July 31 after longtime Superintendent Bill Vandenbrook retired last month.
