It has been a whirlwind few days for Madison Memorial teacher and coach Jeremy Schlitz.

Madison Memorial principal Bruce Dahmen confirmed today that Schlitz was hired last Thursday to succeed Tim Ritchie as the Spartans athletic director. Ritchie recently became the school’s Dean of Students.

Schlitz and his wife, Liz, were married on Saturday. Dahmen said the couple then took off on their honeymoon.

“We’re very happy for Jeremy. He’ll start his new job on Aug. 29,” Dahmen said.

Schlitz has served as the boys and girls golf coach, boys tennis coach and sophomore boys basketball coach but will have to relinquish his coaching duties.

“Athletic directors are not allowed to coach,” Dahmen said. “So we’ll have to make a few adjustments along the way.”

The Spartans - ranked second in The Associated Press' Division 1 state poll - played without starters Junior Lomomba and Jamar Morris, who are suspended indefinitely, but Jester Weah and Ngijol Songolo each scored 18 points in a 60-50 win over Sun Prairie in a Big Eight Conference boys basketball game.
