I am an intensive care unit nurse at a Madison hospital. Throughout the course of this pandemic, health care providers have received their fair share of accolades. My colleagues and I are honored by this recognition.
But it is past time we acknowledge an industry that has kept hospitals afloat in 2020 -- local restaurants.
While those in health care face grave uncertainty at work, those in food service have coped with professional, personal and financial unpredictability this year. Despite this, Madison eateries have given and given and given, even when they have little left to give. From coffee roasters to cafes, from pizzerias to patisseries, meal donations have kept hospital staff nourished in body and morale through stressful shifts.
I have been so touched by the generosity and kindness of each and every donation. To those businesses that have gone above and beyond to support area health care workers, please know your efforts are noticed and deeply appreciated.
As Wisconsin enters into a season of unprecedented coronavirus caseloads, I implore you all to stay home, wear a mask, and get takeout from your favorite local restaurant. When you do, be sure to thank them for everything they do in our community.
