For budget-wary households, cost is always a consideration when purchasing a home, clothing, food and basic necessities. But sometimes the cost consciousness of today has an adverse impact on tomorrow.

The perspective of Isaac Orr’s Dec. 29 guest column, "Closing coal plant will increase electricity prices," is entirely focused on today, with no consideration of tomorrow. However, most households expect their utility providers to take into consideration the resources of tomorrow.

I hope all Wisconsin-based utilities look to WE Energies’ leadership and consider alternative sources of energy generation. Our home is heated with natural gas for a cost-conscious household that expects reasonably priced, safe and reliable heat. We believe we are partners in ensuring we stay warm this winter while benefiting the environment for future generations.
