Was it Crema Cafe's breakfast sandwich, cherry pancakes or Artimelt that prompted readers to crown it the best strip mall restaurant in our recent informal poll?
Or it could have been the grits, a favorite of at least one Cap Times writer.
Whatever the reason, Crema collected the most votes -- 53 at last count -- in a poll posted with our story on the Madison area's best strip mall restaurants. Joey's Seafood & Grill was second with 44, and La Mestiza came in third with 34 votes. More than 275 votes were cast in the story that posted Friday.
We put together a photo gallery of 11 top spots based on an unscientific mix of reader and staff suggestions. Rounding out the initial top three in reverse order were Crema Cafe, Saigon Noodles and the winner, La Mestiza.
The rest of the reader picks, according to the poll, were: Maharaja (28 votes), Bandung (24), Saigon Noodles (23), Curry in the Box (19), Manna Cafe and La Baguette (both 17), Takumi (15) and Harold's Chicken Shack (6).
