WATERTOWN—Margaret J. “Marge” Thomson, 92, of Watertown, ended her year struggle with cancer, dying at home among her possessions and family on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at 2 p.m. at IMMANUAL LUTHERN CHURCH, in Watertown with the Rev. Todd Iverson officiating. Family and friends may gather from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hometown Missions would be appreciated. Margaret Juliet Guthaug was born on March 22, 1945, in Madison, the daughter of James and Olga (nee Peterson) Guthaug. She grew up in Madison, graduating from East High School. She worked at Rigg’s Optical Co. and later for Bausch & Lomb. On June 29, 1946, she was united in marriage to Meredith C. “Tom” Thomson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison. Tom preceded her in death on Feb. 21, 2017. Tom and Margaret lived in Madison, Oconomowoc, Sheboygan and finally Watertown. A full time stay at home mom, she found the time to volunteer at church, nursing homes and other organizations. She learned how to golf and joined several clubs. She enjoyed reading mystery novels.
Margaret is survived by her children, Stephen Thomson, Gregory (Cyndi) Thomson and David Thomson; grandchildren, Tiffany (Jim) Joling, Brittany Thomson and Kayleen Thomson; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Logan and Kalvin; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was further preceded in death by her parents; sister, Edna; brother-in-law, Robert; and a daughter-in-law, Mee Yang.
She was baptized and confirmed at Perry Lutheran Church, Daleyville, Wis., where she will be buried near her parents and relatives. She is the last to have the Guthaug name.
