MONONA / STOUGHTON - Solveig Janette "Sally" Sorenson, age 97, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015. She was born on Jan. 20, 1918, in Stoughton. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Hanson) Myrold. She married Hans "Burr" Sorenson, in Madison, in June of 1947.
Solveig worked in the capitol building for the State of Wisconsin for 40 years, 38 of those years were in the State Treasury Department. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She helped with funeral lunches, worked in the office, baked bread for communion and worked on the Trinity get well, birthday, anniversary and sympathy card program since 1981. She was known for her handwritten heartfelt letters and cards to many. Solveig also enjoyed bowling and was in the 600 bowling club for many years. She spent her spare time working in her yard gardening. Solveig was an avid hugger and very proud of her Norwegian Heritage.
Solveig is survived by her son, Keith (Carol); grandchildren, Kirk (Kristin) Sorenson, Lynnda (Duane) Ehlke, and Kaaren (Ryan) Burgwald; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Charlie, and Audrey Sorenson, Halle and Shelby Ehlke, and Kasey, Kylie, and Kody Burgwald; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Lynnda Lu Sorenson; great-granddaughter, Carlee Anna Ehlke; brothers, Harold and John Myrold; and sister, Eleanore Nygaard.
Funeral services will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., on Monday, March 2, 2015, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. A private burial will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
