SUN PRAIRIE - David "Butch" McNeill, age 85, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born in Milwaukee on Jan. 18, 1929, and was the son of Russell and Mamie (Palan) McNeill. He married Ruth Doyle on Jan. 20, 1951, in Highland. He was a Chief Master Sergeant for the 115th Consolidated Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and the 128th Tactical Fighter Wing, Wisconsin Air National Guard, Truax Field in Madison from 1949 to 1985. He displayed a high degree of professionalism, which contributed greatly to the mission of the aircraft squadron. He was also a member of the Sun Prairie American Legion Post No. 333. He volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and within the Sun Prairie School District.
He was a tireless worker, whether farming or helping others. He enjoyed the outdoors and watching sports with his wife, Ruth, especially watching his grandchildren's sports. He was fiercely protective of his 10 children and instilled in them his compassion and discipline, which was passed onto the grandchildren. He was a fantastic dancer, ice skater, booming baritone singer and whistler. He impacted many lives and will be greatly missed!
