MOUNT HOREB - A precious heart stopped beating on Aug. 7, 2016. Vicki Lynn (Sonnenburg) Kalscheur passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison as a result of a heart attack. Vicki was 61 years old and was born in the town of Monroe, Wis., on Aug. 25, 1954. She was the daughter of Ervin and Lillian (Burrows) Sonnenburg and was the youngest of six.

Vicki spent the first few years of her life on a farm in Juda, raised by her "four mothers" - Lillian and her three older sisters. She appreciated the care they and her two brothers provided, and she was shaped by their influence and love. Vicki moved to Mount Horeb in grade school and graduated from Mount Horeb High School in 1972. She began her working career at Kalscheur's Fine Foods where she started dating the love of her life, William "Bill" Kalscheur, at age 21. They got married at St. Mary's Catholic Church on June 9, 1979. They were married for 37 wild, fun, joy-filled, wonderful years, during which she raised three children, Aaron, Josh, and Caitlyn. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life and they loved her as deeply and unconditionally as she loved and nurtured them.

Vicki had many joys in her life in addition to her loving, devoted family. She cherished employing her God-given creativity to imagine and sew Halloween costumes for herself, her bowling team, her children, and her grandchildren. She worked for a time as medical transcriptionist and for the Department of Revenue before becoming one of the owners of Kalscheur's Fine Foods. Vicki was a cautious though enthusiastic gambler, enjoying days on the penny slots at Ho-Chunk Casino (including her last day) and completing innumerable scratch-and-wins. She loved waking up every morning to have her coffee and fill out the newspaper word search. Vicki was a true Norsk Golf Bowl triathlete - she adored Norsk league golf, spent years bowling for Al's Gals, and played horseshoes. She traveled far and wide, visiting friends and family in Europe, vacationing in Mexico and Hawaii, and taking golf trips to Tennessee. She loved spending time outside, whether tending to her impressive vegetable garden or walking her treasured dogs, Frisker, Macy, and Rupert. And if you were ever at a wedding with Vicki, you were sure to see her out on the dance floor, lighting up the room.

Vicki is survived by her husband, Bill; her children, Aaron (Nicole), Josh (Nicole), and Caitlyn; her grandchildren, Veda, Averi, Jude, and Finley; her mother, Lillian; her sisters, Connie (Jerry) Conway, Karen (Paul) Hodgson, and Andrea (Dennis) Tamminga; her brothers, Elden "Butch" and Rick Sonnenburg; other relatives, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ervin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Virginia Kalscheur; sister-in-law, Jan Sonnenburg; and brother-in-law, Robert Wodill.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at LIFECHURCH, 2770 Brandywein Trail, Mount Horeb, Wis. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. on Friday prior to the funeral at LIFECHURCH. The Ellestad Camacho Funeral Home, 500 N. 8th St., Mount Horeb, is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, please provide a donation to the Iowa County Humane Society, an organization that Vicki gave to generously for many years. Our family would like to provide special thanks to the nurses, support staff, and doctors at St. Mary's Hospital who provided truly exceptional care for her through the last hours of her life.

"Mom, we love you a bushel and a peck."
