FALL RIVER - Karen Marie DeGroot passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 26, 2017, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam, Wis.
She was born on July 18, 1944, at home near Chatfield, Minn., to Robert Bornfleth and Ida Crowson (Bornfleth-Stremcha). She married John Sidney DeGroot in Garden Valley township, Nov. 6, 1964, and lived in Madison, Windsor, Rio, and Fall River. She worked for General Telephone. She owned and operated Karen's Kafe in Rio for many years. After selling Karen's Kafe she went to work at the Famous Footwear distribution center in Sun Prairie. She was an avid Packers fan and attended several games. She and John enjoyed traveling the country in their two RV's, especially the Smoky Mountain area.
She is survived by her husband; mother; sons, Terry (Wendy) of Cannon Falls, Minn., Craig (Ellen) of Stem, N.C., and Stacy of Columbus; sisters, Deanne (Tom) Booth of Reeseville, Virginia (Joe) Hanilf of Waynesboro, Va., Mary (Tom) Knoebel of Madison, Kathy Stremcha of Mauston, and Sharon (Ron) Stockfleth of Rochester, Minn.; brother, Wendell Stremcha of Rockingham, N.C.; and grandchildren, Mikaela Ritzman (Karl), Cole, Seth, Eric, Heather, Colet, and Bryte. She is loved by many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert L. Bornfleth; step-mother, Anne Rupkalvis (Bornfleth); and her precious brother, Robert D. Bornfleth, who passed six days before her.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, at 12 noon at GRASSE FUNERAL HOME, 401 Angel Way, in Rio. Lunch and time of fellowship will follow the service. Memorials in Karen's memory may be made to the family. Grasse Funeral Service of Rio is serving the family.
