The Beacon - exterior

The main entrance to Madison's new homeless day center is off a rear courtyard. An average 180 guests use the facility each day, with more on very cold days.

To deal with the bitter cold, local facilities in Madison that accommodate the homeless are staying open longer and are suspending occupancy limits so more people can be taken care of. Availability may be limited, and it is best to call ahead to verify hours and availability.

Public facilities, such as libraries, community centers and senior centers, also are places for people to go to to get out of the frigid weather during normal hours.
