Hobart Village President Richard Heidel was cited for operating while intoxicated after he and his stalled car were found early Friday near where a vehicle had hit a street sign and other obstacles, the Brown County Sheriff's Department said.
According to authorities, witnesses had reported seeing a car hit the center island at a De Pere intersection, and Heidel's license plate was found at the scene.
Sheriff's Department reports said Heidel was alone in the car and cooperative with the investigating officers. No one was injured.
Heidel, a project manager with WPS Resources Corp., won his post as village president in a September 2003 recall election and was re-elected this spring.
