On May 16, the Joint Committee on Finance held an executive session to discuss the budget proposal for the Wisconsin technical college system. Representative Mike Rohrkaste (R-Neenah) said, "[Democrats] use two words...one is investing and one is failed...I would argue that those are code words...when they say investing, that's spending beyond means." Representative Chris Taylor (D-Madison) said, "No one is saying our tech college system failed, I said you failed, you failed to make investments in them." Democrats, in line with Evers’ latest proposal, proposed increasing funding for technical colleges by $36 million with half of that coming from a $753 million budget surplus. Instead, technical colleges will get $25 million more over two years under what Republicans approved Thursday.
