On November 20, the first meeting of the Governor's Task Force on Reducing Prescription Drug Prices took place to gather and analyze date on the development, pricing, distribution, and purchasing of prescription drugs. Task force member Dr. Michael Goldrosen from Associated Physicians in Madison discussed how there is a lack of understanding for both patients and doctors on how much prescription drugs truly cost. Dr. Goldrosen gave examples of his surprise when it came to the exorbitant cost of epipens, topical estrogen creams and even acne treatments. Being a primary care internist, he has 2,500 patients and writes numerous prescriptions every year which makes it difficult to know the prices of all the medications. "What I need is a way...at the point of care that I can see what [the drug] costs...and figuring out a way where we can lower costs by doing that would be very helpful."
