On November 15, WisconsinEye Senior Producer Steve Walters and WisPolitics.com Editor JR Ross discussed Gov. Tony Evers saying, "don't let the bastards keep you down," when talking to DATCP employees after the Senate voted no to Secretary-Designee Brad Pfaff's appointment. During a recent news conference, Gov. Evers explained that he doesn't think the Senate Republicans are "bastards," but used it as a "term of art" to encourage the department. However, he thinks that the Senate, "made a huge mistake doing what they did to Brad Pfaff." Republican leaders commented that, "These attacks are shockingly disrespectful toward Senate Republicans - it's no wonder Evers hasn't been able to accomplish anything in divided government." Ross pointed out that Evers originally presented an image of a "nice guy" who would "bring the Capitol together, be above the fray," but was affected by the lame-duck session. "Yes, we have never heard a governor say this in public, but we've also never seen what's transpired in the last 11 months in the Capitol."
