On November 14, WisconsinEye Senior Producer Steve Walters interviewed the Department of Natural Resources Big Game Ecologist Kevin Wallenfang on the 2019 deer hunting season. They discussed how Wisconsin's deer hunting season has changed over the last 10-20 years. Wallenfang cited several changes including electronic purchasing of hunting licenses and electronic registration of deer, and most notably the equipment used to hunt deer. "Crossbows are becoming more and more popular, and fewer people using traditional archery equipment is reduced." Wallenfang also highlighted that there are more people in the crossbow and regular bow seasons in comparison to the gun deer season. "It used to be 90 percent of our kill came from the gun deer season, and now it's significantly reduced, and eventually...we may be shooting more deer with archery and crossbow equipment."
