On May 22, Speaker Robin Vos and his Assembly Republican colleagues unveiled their education budget priorities. Their announcement came the day before the Joint Committee on Finance votes on the Department of Public Instruction budget. JFC Co-Chair, Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), announced the details of their education budget which included over $12 billion in state support for public schools, $200 per pupil spending in the first year and $204 in the second year, 13 percent increase in state funding for special education, over $20 million in student mental health, fully funding high cost transportation aid and targeting resources to rural districts. "We will still be able to say that our property taxes will be lower with this proposal than the one Governor Evers put forward."
