On February 16th, WisconsinEye interviewed officials who helped make Truax Field in Madison, WI the designated home of F35A fighter jets which will tentatively be deployed in 2023. The officials were asked about the differences between the F16 and F35 fighter jets and about concerns the Madison-area community may have like more noise pollution. Zach Brandon, president of the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce, said, "There's still a lot of people that don't truly understand that this is an air force town. It may be one of the most quiet air force towns in the country, but people don't realize that there's a base here of 1,200 people who not only have a huge economic impact, but are providing national defense in a real and meaningful way."
