A motorcycle fire inside a garage at a townhouse in Mount Horeb caused an estimated $70,000 in damage to the garage, its contents and the exterior of the building, authorities reported.

The fire was reported at about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday at 324 Justin Drive, said Mount Horeb Fire Chief Craig Brinkmann in a news release.

"The occupant attempting to start his motorcycle in the garage noticed smoke and then the motorcycle ignited," Brinkmann said.

The man got out of the garage and called 911.

"After calling 911 he found the garage fully involved in fire, with flames creeping up the side of the building," Brinkmann said.

Firefighters evacuated the multi-unit townhouse building and had the fire under control in about 10 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

Mount Horeb Fire was assisted by the Barneveld and Verona fire departments and the FitchRona Ambulance service.
