Monona Terrace jump

A Madison man who jumped from the roof of Monona Terrace into Lake Monona on July 16 has been ticketed for his actions.

Steven Hoeg, 25, was cited by Madison police for unlawful trespass and unlawfully possessing/consuming an open intoxicant on a public street, Madison police said in a news release. The citations add up to about $750 in fines.

Hoeg's video of his jump was posted on YouTube, with almost 30,000 hits as of Monday.

The citations were mailed to Hoeg after his identity was verified by an officer.

"Staff at Monona Terrace notified police last week of the July 16 jump, when the video was posted," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

The YouTube video shows Hoeg climbing onto the roof of the convention center, going to the edge and jumping safely into the water, then swimming to a waiting powerboat that motored away.

Jumping off Monona Terrace is not a new phenomenon. People were also ticketed for similar stunts in 2007.
