Five people were injured Sunday morning in Green County when a driver with a revoked license rear-ended the Amish buggy they were riding in, authorities reported.
The crash happened at 8:12 a.m. on County E north of Borchardt Road in the town of Decatur, according to a news release from the Green County Sheriff's Department.
Nicholas Roth, 32, of Albany, was taken to Green County Jail on several tentative charges, including operating a motor vehicle while revoked and failure to pay a fine for a third drunken driving offense.
Injured in the crash were Lester Schmucker, 43; his wife, Katie, 42; and children Wanda Jean, 14, Brenda Rose, 11, and Minerva Irene, 9.
Lester and Katie Schmucker were taken to UW Hospital in Madison, while the three children received minor injuries. There was no information available on the couple's condition Monday morning, according to a spokeswoman at UW Hospital.
The horse was seriously injured and had to be euthanized at the scene.
The buggy and the car both sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.
