A bicyclist suffered apparent head injuries Tuesday morning when he hit a car and went airborne on Madison's Southwest Side.

The crash happened at about 7:45 a.m. at Raymond and Marty Roads, Madison police said in a news release.

The unidentified driver will be cited for failure to yield.

Police said:

The bicyclist, a man in his 20s,  was going west on Raymond Road down a hill when the driver on Maqrty Road, north of Raymond Road, pulled out onto eastbound Raymond Road and into the path of the bicyclist.

"The peddler struck the car and went airborne," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. "He was taken to a hospital with apparent head injuries."

An investigating officer said the victim initially was unconscious but was talking and lucid by the time he was at the hospital.
