Beloit police investigating fatal shooting

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old man found mortally wounded on a Beloit street around 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was Joe'l Paul P. Baldwin Davidson Royster of Beloit, according to a news release from Beloit Police Capt. Dan Risse.

According to Risse, Royster was found in the 1200 block of Copeland Avenue with a single gunshot wound. He was taken to Beloit Memorial Hospital, where he died.

"At this point in the investigation, it is believed that this was not a random incident," Risse said in the release.
