A man made off with an unspecified amount of cash and nearly $2,500 worth of cigarettes and cigars early Sunday morning at an East Side gas station, Madison police reported.

Police describe the man as a "smash-and-grab" burglar who threw a rock through a Capitol Petro window, 1101 N. Sherman Ave., around 4 a.m. before committing the burglary.

Surveillance video shows the man wore a black hooded coat.
