A woman described as a prolific shoplifter was arrested New Year's Eve at East Towne Mall, allegedly with stolen clothing in her purse.

Paris Smith-Carr, 25, of Madison, was tentatively charged with felony retail theft and on warrants from nine other shoplifting incidents, Madison police said.

"Police had been looking for her in connection with a felony retail theft that took place on Christmas Eve at Target, after the suspect allegedly took two iPads," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

Smith-Carr had nine outstanding warrants in the system for other retail thefts.

"An officer who tracks such cases said the suspect is one of the most prolific shoplifters she has seen in her career," DeSpain said.
