Shots fired early on New Year's Day on Madison's East Side reportedly didn't hit anything, with no injuries or property damage found.

The shots were reported at about 1:15 a.m. in the 1700 block of Fordem Avenue, Madison police said.

Arriving officers saw numerous people outside of an apartment building, with the crowd scattering as the officers showed up.

"A witness reported hearing three gunshots, with a silver-colored car driving from the area shortly thereafter," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

No description of a suspect was given.
