Online cooking school

Epicurious and the Culinary Institute of America are partnering to make professional culinary training accessible to home cooks on the Internet. The Epicurious Online Cooking School offers access to curriculum previously available only to CIA students.

The online school is a four-course series of instructional videos created by Epicurious and the CIA. Food enthusiasts can learn everything from making authentic tamales to preparing the perfect pie dough. A variety of topics will be covered within each course, ranging from knife skills to food safety.

Each class will average 30 minutes and will be accessible via computers, tablets and mobile devices. Courses will be priced up to $49, with the first lesson of each course free for users.

New items at Culver’s

Culver’s restaurants are adding two limited-time items: a Colby Jack pub burger and crinkle-cut sweet potato fries. They will be on the menu through Nov. 11.

The pub burger is a spin on the chain’s signature ButterBurger, and “a nod to the supper club history of Wisconsin,” promotional materials note. Besides cheese, the burger has crispy fried onions, and a “four-pepper mayo with a dash of A.1. Steak Sauce.”

Culver’s, based in Prairie du Sac, has more than 450 locations in 19 states. Visit the restaurant’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/culvers, for a chance to win a $500 gift card.
