Those who follow local barbecue news are well aware that Smoky Jon's # 1 BBQ, 2310 Packers Ave., cleans up in the National Barbecue Association's annual competition, which it has won first-place awards in for 10 years in a row, including in March in San Marcos, Texas.

More recently the restaurant took first place honors at the inaugural World Hot Sauce Awards last month in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Smoky Jon's won in the special BBQ sauce category and received third place in the tomato BBQ sauce category for Smoky Jon's Fiery Gourmet Supreme sauce.

There were 582 entries from around the world entered in the event.

Owner "Smoky" Jon Olson also took first place in July in another contest, winning grand champion honors in the pork division with his Smoky Jon's Original Gourmet Supreme BBQ sauce at the National BBQ News 2014 Sauces of Honors held in Douglas, Georgia.

That competition had 148 professional and amateur entrees from across the U.S.
