Dear Editor: Jim Crist, in "Here's how to drain the swamp," referred to the 95 Wisconsin communities that have voted overwhelmingly in support of a constitutional amendment to overturn the notorious Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. FEC.

The proposed amendment would end the fictions that money is speech, and that corporate entities have the same constitutional rights as real human beings. We would then be able to regulate the flow of money into our political processes, and restore genuine democracy and control to the people of Wisconsin.

Despite 95 communities having approved the amendment when offered the opportunity to consider it, Republicans in the Legislature have consistently refused to allow an advisory referendum on the amendment to appear on a statewide ballot. Wisconsinites everywhere should have the opportunity to voice their opinion on this important question. Legislators should provide them with this opportunity, not stifle their voices.
