Dear Editor: Two years of dialogue across the state among religious leaders and policy experts have led to a consensus that child poverty in Wisconsin is a moral crisis that demands action. Wisdom, Kids Forward, Wisconsin Council of Churches and Citizens Action Education Fund have teamed together to fund a bold but attainable goal of cutting child poverty in half in the next 10 years.

The focus on child poverty is due to the fact that children are the poorest segment of society. The negative consequences of childhood poverty impact their health, development, and life prospects that persist into adulthood and future generations, affecting the vitality and productivity of the whole community.

A goal of 10,000 signatures is now in process of being attained. These signatures will be presented to our lawmakers in Madison advocationg that we need to began a serious dialogue with the hope of cutting poverty in half.
