Dear Editor: I was so excited when Tanya Buckingham told me she was planning to run for Dane County supervisor in our District, 24. I would encourage all residents of Monona and south/east Madison who care about strong communities to vote for Tanya.

As the program director at Bridge Lake Point Waunona (BLW) Neighborhood Center, I have worked with Tanya since she joined our board two years ago. She is a great team member; she shows up to BLW to do the work. It could be taking the trash out at a lunch event, getting on the floor and playing with the kids, or advocating on the center’s behalf with city alders and staff — she is here for us, just as I know she will be as our Dane County supervisor.

BLW focuses on building community and supporting individuals through shared meals, a food pantry, and educating our children in ways that meet their needs, to name just a few. She has facilitated productive community listening sessions, and worked with the board, BLW staff, and elected officials to elevate the voice of residents.

Tanya is always one step ahead. She takes the time to do her research, thinks quickly, and knows how to turn her work into action. People are drawn to her and like to be part of whatever she is working on. She will be an incredible representative for us all in District 24.
