The $18 million first phase makeover of the Hilldale Shopping Center is kicking off Tuesday with the opening of a new location for Morgan Shoes and a half-dozen other retail spaces.
Billed as the largest retail development in city history, the changes over the past year from owners WS Development of Boston include opening up the entire north center between Metcalfe’s Market and Macy’s department store and creating an open air environment.
“We’ve literally turned this section of the center inside out,” said WS spokesman Jim Andrews in a statement.
In addition to Morgan Shoes, other new spaces and their opening date include:
Lucky Brand on Tuesday; Sur La Table on Wednesday; Stride Rite on Wednesday; New Balance on Thursday; Kate Spade on Friday; Mes Amies on June 10; Michael Kors on June 18 and LUSH on June 25.
Boston-based WS Development purchased the Hilldale property out of foreclosure from Joseph Freed & Associates about three years ago.
WS is a privately held firm that owns or manages some 85 commercial properties, mainly in the northeast although it has been expanding its reach of late.
