Since late December, Public Health Madison & Dane County has provided COVID-19 vaccines at the Alliant Energy Center. The operation has steadily expanded as vaccine supplies increase, and recently the Federal Emergency Management Agency has contributed personnel and resources that allow staff to give out up to 7,700 vaccine doses per week.
To meet demand, the health agency developed an operation that’s about as easy to navigate as a fast-food drive-up.
This week, staff at the center was set to administer more than 7,000 doses, but a recent pause on the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine over concerns about blood clots has put 1,200 doses on hold. Still, the health department is doling out 5,850 doses of a two-shot vaccine from Pfizer this week.
