If you are looking for a great place to raise a family, look no further than Madison.
Kiplinger.com has named the Wisconsin capital one of the 10 best cities in America in which to raise a family.
"Low crime, top-notch suburban schools and reasonable housing costs make Madison a good choice for families," Kiplinger said.
The biotech industry (and its high paying jobs), low unemployment, a focus on education, great health care and the lakes/recreational opportunities all add up to a Top 10 listing.
On the flip side, Kiplinger pointed at above-average housing costs, uninspiring employment growth, bitterly cold winters and weak schools compared to the suburbs as cons for living here.
The other "Great Cities for Raising Families" in no particular order are Ellicott City, Md.; Ann Arbor, Mich.; College Station, Tex.; Kennewick, Wash.; Huntsville, Ala.; Pocatello, Id.; Rochester, Minn.; West Hartford, Conn.; and Raleigh, N.C.
Kiplinger used the same criteria that's used to rank the best cities for the next decade in picking the best family-raising communities: job growth, healthy economies and a vibrant local culture.
