Madison Mayor Paul Soglin told the Cap Times last week he will "most likely" run as a Democratic candidate for governor in 2018.
In the week’s most-read article on CapTimes.com, Soglin said he will make an official announcement at the beginning of 2018. It's not a guarantee, but it's the "strongest indication yet that he intends to enter the race."
“I’m just convinced right now that Wisconsin is looking for someone with the experience ... who knows how to build an economy,” Soglin told the Cap Times in June. “I’ve done that.”
Another top read was an editorial about Speaker of the House Paul Ryan’s approval ratings, which, according to one recent poll, have dipped to 35 percent.
“Ryan's party-over-principles position provided essential aid and comfort to Trump throughout the campaign, and the speaker has been just as loyal since Trump was sworn in Jan. 20,” wrote associate editor John Nichols. “But this loyalty has come at a cost.”
Other top reads this week looked at an attempted abduction on the UW-Madison campus, a “Hamilton” star coming to perform in Madison, and a bill that would ban state health bans from covering abortion.
