Speculation on whether Madison Mayor Paul Soglin will challenge Gov. Scott Walker in 2018 will be put to rest in a few weeks.
Soglin said Wednesday he will make an official announcement in the second week of January.
“The way things stand now, unless something very unusual takes place, the announcement will be yes,” Soglin said.
Soglin said at the beginning of November he would “most likely” join the race, which had been the strongest indication yet. If he runs, Soglin would join a crowded Democratic primary field Walker, who launched his reelection campaign Nov. 5.
Soglin was most recently elected as mayor of Madison in 2011 and reelected in 2015. His current term ends in 2019.
When asked whether he would consider running again for mayor, Soglin said: “Let’s take these things one at a time.”
