High school sports are a focus of community life in Wisconsin, but how is that role changing in an era of elite club teams, brain injury concerns and education reform? Stories of coaches and referees burned out by overbearing parents and obnoxious fans are in the news, but are those problems any worse than in the past?
The Cap Times has assembled an outstanding panel to discuss all of those questions at Memorial High School, 201 S. Gammon Road, on Tuesday, May 8. News Editor Jason Joyce will moderate the panel, whose members are:
David Bell, director of the Wisconsin Injury in Sport Laboratory
Eric Bertun, Big Eight High School Conference Commissioner and director of operations for Capital East Soccer Club
Will Green, co-founder of Mentoring Positives, Inc. and the La Follette High School girls basketball coach
Alex Mundy, coach of Nemea, West High School’s girl’s Ultimate Frisbee club team
Jeremy Schlitz, athletic director for the Madison Metropolitan School District
This free Cap Times Talk will take place in Memorial High School’s auditorium from 7-8. We hope to see you there, and here's a map to help you navigate the school.
If you plan to go, please RSVP on our Facebook event page, though doing so is not required for attendance.
