UW-Madison education professor Gloria Ladson-Billings speaks with Cap Times reporter Amber Walker at the Cap Times Idea Fest.

Gloria Ladson-Billings, professor of education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, says it's all too easy for teachers to make assumptions about students of color. Those students, she told education reporter Amber Walker at the recent Cap Times Idea Fest, need teachers who tell them,"I believe in you, I’m committed to you and your success."

The nationally renowned scholar and author spoke with Walker about educational strategies to better serve students of color, what school diversity looks like in Wisconsin, and the importance of experimentation in classroom settings.

You can listen to their conversation in this episode of Live from Cap Times Idea Fest, a podcast that brings you recordings of the many panels and interviews featured at the inaugural event.
