An Amish man was slightly injured Sunday night when he was thrown from his buggy when it was struck from behind by a vehicle, with the driverless horse and buggy found running down a state highway near Darlington, authorities reported.
Jacob King, 30, of Darlington, was driving the buggy on Wisconsin 23 in the town of Willow Springs in Lafayette County at about 10:50 p.m. when the buggy was struck by an unknown vehicle, the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.
A motorist called 911 after spotting the driverless horse and buggy heading south on Wisconsin 23 near the Darlington city limits.
"Deputies and Darlington police got the horse and buggy stopped after it traveled through several streets and yards near Highway 23," the news release said.
King was taken to Darlington by a resident who lived near the crash site. He refused medical attention.
The crash remains under investigation.
