No. 12 Clyde “Smackover” Scott of Arkansas defends a pass in the 1947 Cotton Bowl. Scott won the silver medal in the 110 meter hurdles in the 1948 Summer Olympics in London.

The 1947 Cotton Bowl featured ice, sleet, snow and rain as Arkansas and LSU battled to a 0-0 tie in what would later be known as the Ice Bowl.

LSU moved inside the Arkansas 20-yard line on five occasions but could not score. Arkansas was only able to manage just one first down and 54 total yards of offense.

Late in the fourth quarter Arkansas stopped LSU at the 4-yard line and a bad snap from the LSU center prevented a game-winning field goal attempt from getting off the ground.
