Directed by Hal Ashby (Harold and Maude, The Last Detail), this satire of American society features Peter Sellers as gardener Chance, who has been employed by the wealthy owner of a Washington D.C. townhouse his entire life, and educated only by what he has seen on television. When his employer dies, Chance wanders the streets and encounters a powerful businessman who mistakes him for a high-society gentleman, whose knowledge of gardening is mistaken for clever political acumen.
