Packers notes: Hawk still hasn't been cleared
By JASON WILDE

GREEN BAY — Despite his second straight day of what he considered full-fledged practice, Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk is listed as questionable on the team's injury report and will miss Monday night's regular-season opener against the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field if the medical staff doesn't clear him.

Hawk, who hasn't played since being injured in the Aug. 11 preseason opener against Cincinnati, practiced Friday wearing a brace to protect a strained right chest muscle, albeit a different harness than he'd worn a day earlier.

"I feel like I could've played a while ago," said Hawk, who had never missed a practice in his football life before the injury. "(But) I'm still not cleared. I'm still talking to the doctors, trying to figure stuff out. Obviously, it's tough. I've never been off of the field like that for that long of a period of time before. So, it's good to at least get back to practice. It feels good to be out there."

Hawk said he doesn't need the harness but would wear it if required — "If they let me play, I don't care. I'll wear anything," he said — and expects to be lobbying team doctor Pat McKenzie right up until the inactives are set Monday night.

Health watch

No. 3 wide receiver James Jones (right knee) is listed as doubtful and, after not practicing, is unlikely to play.

Although Jones, who has been running all week, claimed his status will be a "game-time decision," the Packers have prepared this week as if Ruvell Martin and Jordy Nelson will be the third and fourth receivers behind starters Greg Jennings and Donald Driver.

"The main thing is the coaches want me to rest. They don't want me to get out there too early and maybe tweak it," said Jones, who was injured against Denver Aug. 22 and said Friday he suffered a sprained PCL.

"They want to make sure I'm 100 percent before I step out on the field, even the practice field. If I don't go in the walkthrough, they might run me on Sunday and see how it is. If they feel like it's going to set us back another week, then we'll call the game off. We definitely don't want to come back 85, 90 percent and then it gets bumped in the game and I'm back to 60 percent."

• Center Scott Wells (lower back) missed practice again and is questionable, as is safety Charlie Peprah (hamstring). Guard Josh Sitton (knee) is the only player officially ruled out.

• Although they didn't practice Friday, halfback Ryan Grant (hamstring) and defensive end Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee) are listed as probable, as are safety Atari Bigby (ankle), left tackle Chad Clifton (knees/chest), defensive end Jeremy Thompson (groin) and linebacker Tracy White (ankle).

Still Brett's locker

Remember all the hullabaloo about Brett Favre's locker and how the team wasn't going to give it away?

Well, it's been given away — to another Brett: Brett Goode, the team's new long snapper.

"It's an honor, but I can't really do anything about it," Goode said. "It was their choice to put me here."
