Packers: Rodgers still single-minded

GREEN BAY — Moms across Wisconsin, not to mention girls with a crush on Quarterback McDreamy, can breathe a sigh of relief: Aaron Rodgers finally got a haircut.

And those aforementioned smitten girls also can relax, knowing there's still hope: A Green Bay-area television station's report over the weekend that Rodgers had gotten married on Saturday turned out to be erroneous.

Yes, welcome to life as the Green Bay Packers' signal-caller, A-Rodg. Everything you do — or, in this case, don't do — is news.

"It's fun being in the public eye and I know I have a responsibility there," Rodgers said. "I'm just going to try to keep it positive information."

Fox affiliate WLUK reported after Saturday's Donald Driver charity softball game that Rodgers missed the appearance because he was getting married in California.

"Yes, I went to a wedding this weekend. (But) it was not my own," Rodgers told a reporter from the station after Tuesday morning's minicamp practice, before adding jokingly, "But thanks for breaking it. I appreciated the text messages and the calls I got about that."

As for the haircut, he did it for the wedding — a close friend of his family, whom he described as being "like a sister" — and the reviews were mixed.

"He looks like he's about 13 years old now," long-haired linebacker A.J. Hawk said.

Turn up the radio

The Packers are continuing to experiment with the new defensive helmet radio system in practice, just as they did during organized team activity practices.

Coach Mike McCarthy, who communicates with the quarterback via the system on offense, has defensive coordinator Bob Sanders on a walkie-talkie in practice, talking to the middle linebackers and safeties.

Safety Nick Collins and middle linebacker Nick Barnett are the primary users of the headset, which will only be allowed in one player's helmet at a time on the field.

"We'll continue to use it through (training) camp, really to get the players used to having the voice in their ear," McCarthy said.

Extra points

Veteran cornerback Charles Woodson missed the morning practice with what McCarthy termed a "personal matter" but participated in the afternoon session as expected. ... Left tackle Chad Clifton continues to sit out to rest, just as he did during OTAs, with Orrin Thompson (and sometimes Tony Moll) working with the No. 1 offense in his place. Daryn Colledge worked with the first unit at left guard. ... Also sitting out: defensive linemen Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee), Johnny Jolly (shoulder), Justin Harrell (back) and Colin Cole (forearm); offensive linemen Cameron Stephenson (calf) and Junius Coston (lower back); and cornerbacks Will Blackmon (foot) and Kyle Ward (ankle). Ward returned to action in the afternoon. ... Center Scott Wells practiced in the morning but sat out in the afternoon, presumably just for rest. ... Returning to action after missing parts or all of OTAs: fullback John Kuhn (groin), Moll (knee) and tight end Jermichael Finley (knee). ... The rookies' families came to the afternoon practice, with the position coaches doing a meet-and-greet with them afterward.
