All eyes on

Wisconsin: Junior defenseman Jamie McBain (5 goals, 24 points last season) was selected to the preseason first team in the WCHA media poll conducted by The Capital Times.

Boston College: Senior forward Brock Bradford (3 goals, 5 points last season) played in only five games a year ago because of a broken left arm, but the Eagles' captain is expected to be a major contributor to the offense.

New Hampshire: Sophomore forward James van Riemsdyk (11 goals, 34 points last season) was the second overall pick in the 2007 NHL entry draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Points to ponder

On the road again: This is the third straight season in which Wisconsin has opened with a nonconference game away from home. They've won the first two -- against Northern Michigan in Ashwaubenon in 2006 and against Notre Dame in Dayton, Ohio, last season. The Badgers are 5-1 in season openers under coach Mike Eaves, having won five in a row.

This doesn't look familiar: Wisconsin has played only three times at BC's Conte Forum: Jan. 17, 1988 (a 5-4 loss); Oct. 27, 2000 (a 3-2 victory); and Oct. 25, 2002 (a 4-2 loss). The Badgers have never played at UNH's Whittemore Center; their last appearance in Durham was two games at Snively Arena in January 1985 (5-0 and 8-6 UW victories).

Feeling a draft: Twelve players on Boston College's roster have been drafted by an NHL team. Wisconsin has 10 and New Hampshire has six.

Going downward: After winning the first 14 games in the all-time series against New Hampshire, the Badgers have lost the last two. The most recent was a 7-4 loss in the 1998 NCAA East Regional in Albany, N.Y.

Two in goal? Eaves said he's considering giving Scott Gudmandson the start in goal in Saturday's game, but that decision won't come until after Shane Connelly starts Friday's game. Eaves has said he wants to get Gudmandson more time in goal this season.
