Wednesday is respite until cold weather returns

Wednesday will feel like normal, weather-wise, compared to the past few chilly days in Madison, as temperatures climb to the low 40s, but the return to normal will be short-lived.

Colder weather is poised to pour into southern Wisconsin once again, with nighttime lows dropping to the low-teens Thursday and Friday night.

Weather Central meteorologist Brian Olson said Madison can expect a high of 41 Wednesday under mostly cloudy skies, but the winds will start to shift from the southwest to the northwest, bringing colder air over the region starting tonight.

The low temperature Wednesday night should dip to the mid 20s, and the high on Thursday might reach the freezing mark (32) before dropping down to 12 degrees Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday will be sunny but cold with a high near 30, dropping down to the low teens Friday night under clear and calm skies.

Saturday's forecast for the football game between the Badgers and Cal Poly at Camp Randall Stadium could be close to the same conditions at the stadium last Saturday, but without the snow showers. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid 30s with winds between 5 and 10 mph.

From Sunday to Tuesday, the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with highs in the mid to upper 30s and lows in the low to mid 20s.

Tuesday's high in Madison was 32 degrees, 10 degrees below normal and 37 degrees below the record of 69 for Nov. 18 set in 1953. The low was 16 degrees, 11 below normal and 13 degrees above the record low of three degrees set in 1872.
