Foreclosures continued to be filed at a record pace in September in Wisconsin, according to the latest figures released Monday by ForeclosuresWi.com.

September foreclosure filings totaled 2,021, bringing the year-to-date filings in Wisconsin to 18,160, 23 percent higher than the first three quarters of 2007.

"Wisconsin foreclosures have been building up to the current levels for the past three years," said ForeclosuresWI.com President Robert Jansen. "While new foreclosure filings appear to be leveling off, monthly filings remain over double what they were just five years ago."

The biggest number of foreclosure filings in Wisconsin continued to be in Milwaukee County, the most populous county, where 463 filings were recorded in September, 39 fewer than September of 2007. For the year, 4,496 foreclosures were filed in Milwaukee, up 18 percent over 2007.

One hundred foreclosures were filed in Dane County in September, 17 more than September last year. For the first nine months of 2008, 905 foreclosures have been filed in Dane County, 44 percent more than the first nine months of 2007.

In south central Wisconsin, foreclosure filings are up 53 percent in Sauk County, 36 percent in Columbia County, 16 percent in Rock County and 40 percent in Jefferson County.
