This weekend is last big splash at pool, beaches

The weather should be great to break out the swimsuits one last time this weekend at the Goodman Pool and at the city's beaches on lakes Monona and Mendota.

The last big splash for human swimmers at Goodman Pool, 325 Olin Ave., is Sunday, Aug. 31, while city beaches will be open through Labor Day on Monday.

Dogs will get their day at Goodman Pool on Labor Day during the annual Dog Paddle, the final activity at the pool before it shuts down for the season.

"Bring the kids out for some fun in the sun before they have to go back to school next week," said Laura Whitmore, community relations and volunteer coordinator for city parks.

Family open swim hours at Goodman Pool are 12:30-4:30 p.m. and 6:15-8 p.m. weekdays and noon-7 p.m. weekends.

Madison's bigger beaches, including B.B. Clarke, Olbrich, Tenney and Vilas, will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the smaller beaches that are still open -- Bernies, Esther, Spring Harbor, James Madison, Olin and Warner -- will be open 12:30-4:30 p.m.

For more information on Madison beaches, go to the Web at http://www.cityofmadison.com/beaches/, and for admission prices to Goodman Pool, go to the Web at http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/pool/index.cfm.
