A 19-year-old Fitchburg man was pistol whipped and robbed early Saturday morning by a group of seven or eight men who attacked him on Regent Street.

Madison police said the victim reported the attack about 10 a.m. Saturday but it happened about 2 a.m., in the 100 block of Regent Street.

The victim told police he had consumed "a lot of alcohol" at a party downtown, then went outside to get some air, before being approached by the group.

"They asked him for drugs and then robbed him of his cell phone and money," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. "He was punched, struck with a handgun and thrown to the ground during the crime."

The victim gave sketchy descriptions of three of the attackers, including a white male, 25 years old, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, heavy build, with curly black hair pulled back into a ponytail; a black male, 25, 5-7 tall, heavy build and a black male, 25, 5-11 tall, 215 lbs., with an afro hair style, armed with a black handgun.
